As an unpublished writer, what can I showcase on my website about an upcoming series that won’t prejudice the series being traditionally published?
I am a new unpublished writer, realizing my childhood dream of traditionally publishing a novel. Currently, I’m writing a fantasy series based around a well-developed world that will (hopefully) be easily marketable to other media (e.g., gaming, TV, toys, etc.), as well as provide a foundation for further novels and series. I’ve read on blogs and heard on podcasts that publishing things like scenes and chapters from a pre-published novel can be a deterrent for agents and publishers. Assuming that’s true, what can I publish on my website (specifically to both showcase my writing as well as draw interest in the series/world) that won’t deter traditional publication? If it’s not true…I guess the same question applies 😛

Before I got published, I documented my writing journey. Especially the classes I went to, my entering/placing/joy/frustration with WotF. Made for interesting reading once I’d won. I could see my entire journey.
If you are pushing something specific, post a cover if it’s done. Post a small excerpt (doesn’t matter if it’s final or not, you can change it later.) Agents like to know that the author is up for doing some of his/her own marketing.
Make sure you have a newsletter sign up (do as I say, not as I do.) That way, you have someone to notify when your work is published or along the path. Buzz is important.
Blog–if you want to, and you like to blog. Otherwise, it’s just another chore you need to do and it will fall by the wayside.

Sorry for the late reply (one of those things I meant to do, but then I saw some squirrels and you know how that goes). Interestingly enough, your suggestion was what I’d initially done with my website (basically cataloging my journey to publication—like minds think a great, or something like that), but I got hacked by Russians (no joke) and lost my whole website, which was my reminder that I needed to back up my website.
