Writing Enchanted Prose – Questions
For anyone who has worked through enchanted prose, I have a few questions.
First, when working on assignments for part 1, which requires marking up each K, A, V, does dialogue count as A? Especially in regard to other people talking to the MC. I’m thinking the dialogue is an audial, and the beats/reactions that follow it are visuals?
Also, how important is it to write the drafting assignments in first person?

Hi Dawn 🙂 My feeling is yes, dialogue is audio, but i think the idea is what the person is hearing in terms of the setting… the ripple of water over rocks or the wind in the trees. Setting is not just what we see, but what we hear, smell, even feel in relation to all of those things.
Doing the exercises is important because it trains you to do it naturally … like muscle memory .
I don’t think it matters whether it’s first person … although first person might cause you to think more like it’s you seeing, hearing, feeling.that’s my two cents worth 🙂

Hi Dawn,
When I did this assignment, I did treat dialogue as A. And I don’t see why third person wouldn’t work just as well as first person for the drafting assignments. The K A and V are appeals to the reader, not the narrator.

+1 on treating dialogue as audio. The nice thing there, too, is dialogue can provide a nice opportunity for K – and thus, the cycles continue!
